What Winter Tire Size Should a Ford Maverick Use

START WITH THE DOOR-PLACARD SIZE

Use the Maverick’s door-placard tire size as the lowest-risk winter choice—commonly 225/65R17 on current XL/XLT configurations. A smaller winter wheel can be valid only when bolt pattern, center bore, width, offset, load rating, brake clearance and TPMS all match.

Verify the exact configuration before ordering.

Ford’s 2025 specifications list 225/65R17, 235/65R17 on Tremor and 225/55R19 on applicable configurations. Those factory examples are not interchangeable recommendations for every trim.

Look for the three-peak mountain snowflake symbol where severe-snow performance matters. Four matched winter tires preserve balanced handling; do not place only two on one axle. Use vehicle-approved cold pressure rather than the tire sidewall maximum.

Downsizing safely

An equivalent outer diameter is only the first screen. The wheel must clear brakes and suspension, carry the load, center correctly and accept compatible fasteners/sensors. Obtain a complete application from the wheel/tire manufacturer or qualified installer.

Bottom line

Match the placard unless a complete alternative assembly is documented. A dedicated 17-inch setup can be practical, but “17-inch Maverick wheel” is not enough fitment evidence.
