Factory/FX4 protection is the light-duty baseline, RIVAL offers application-specific aluminum panels for engine, catalytic-converter and Hybrid underside zones, and HRG offers a steel front plate for listed EcoBoost trucks. The correct system depends on model year, Hybrid/EcoBoost, drivetrain, Tremor/FX4 equipment and which vulnerable area you actually need to cover.

“Skid plate” can mean one small engine panel or a multi-panel system. A cheap single panel is not directly comparable with a package protecting several zones.

RIVAL currently separates 2022–2024 and 2025–2026 EcoBoost engine-plate applications while listing its engine plate for 2022–2026 Hybrid trucks; it excludes Tremor from that application. That illustrates why engine and trim must be checked at part-number level.

Bottom line

Inventory the vulnerable zones and existing factory parts first. Then compare complete coverage, application and service access—not a single headline price.
