Ford Maverick Bed Lighting: Factory LEDs vs Aftermarket Kits

KEEP FACTORY LIGHTS FOR SIMPLE INTEGRATION; ADD DIFFUSED SIDE LIGHTING FOR COVERED-BED VISIBILITY

High confidence · Last verified 27 Oct 2026

Factory bed lighting is the cleanest integrated solution, but an aftermarket strip or pod system can spread light more evenly under a tonneau. Use a fused, weather-resistant kit with a deliberate switch and power plan. Do not tap an unknown wire or leave adhesive-only strips where cargo can peel them away.

One bright lamp can create glare and deep shadows. Two low side-mounted runs often illuminate a covered bed more usefully than a single high-output point source.

The Maverick provides auxiliary power access intended to simplify aftermarket 12V accessories, but circuit capacity still applies. Add the lamp current, protect the branch with the correct fuse and keep splices weather-sealed.

Bottom line

Factory lights win for simplicity; added side lighting wins for a covered working bed. The reliable install is defined by power protection and mounting, not the highest lumen claim.

If bed rails are part of the install, review Maverick bed rails, cleats and T-bolt compatibility.
