What Tire Size Fits a Ford Maverick With a 2-Inch Lift?
245/70R17 ON A 17X8 +38 WHEEL IS ROUGH COUNTRY'S DOCUMENTED 2-INCH-LIFT COMBINATION—IT IS NOT A UNIVERSAL NO-RUB GUARANTEE
Use 245/65R17 for the lower-risk path. Move to 245/70R17 only with the exact lift, wheel offset and a real clearance test. A different tire shoulder or lower-offset wheel can rub even when the size code matches.
The current Rough Country 2-inch kit excludes Hybrid and Tremor applications.
Rough Country's 2-inch Maverick kit lists 245/70R17 on a 17x8 wheel with +38 offset. Its own page also says manufacturing and inflated dimensions vary and the combination should be test-fitted. That warning matters: two tires marked 245/70R17 can have different measured widths, diameters and shoulder shapes.
| Setup | Use case | Fitment risk |
|---|---|---|
| 245/65R17 | Conservative larger tire, less diameter gain | Lower, but still wheel- and tire-specific |
| 245/70R17 on 17x8 +38 | Named Rough Country 2-inch setup | Supported for that application, still test-fit |
| 255-width or low-offset wheel | Wider stance or appearance | Higher liner, pinch-weld and fender interference risk |
A suspension lift creates static space but does not automatically move every interference point during steering and compression. Lower positive offset pushes the tire outward, increasing the arc near the bumper/liner; extra width can also reduce inner clearance. Added diameter changes effective gearing, displayed speed, spare-tire matching and braking leverage.
After installation, inspect at full left/right lock, reverse lock, driveway articulation and loaded compression. Confirm alignment and recalibrate expectations for fuel economy. Do not trim structural material based on a forum size list.

| Decision point | What this guide establishes |
|---|---|
| Documented named setup | 245/70R17, 17x8, +38 with Rough Country 51064 |
| Lower-risk alternative | 245/65R17 |
| Excluded by named kit | Hybrid and Tremor |
| Variables still controlling fit | Tire model, actual dimensions, offset, wheel width and vehicle tolerances |
Bottom line
Treat 245/70R17 as an exact-system result, not a Maverick-wide rule. If your wheel or lift differs, restart the clearance calculation.
