What Do You Need to Install Rock Sliders on a Tacoma?

START WITH THE EXACT SLIDER APPLICATION

High confidence for the cited products · Last verified 15 Oct 2026

To install Tacoma rock sliders, first match the exact generation, cab and bed length; then follow that product's drilling, hardware, finish and torque instructions. Plan safe support for the heavy slider during alignment. Do not assume every frame-mounted slider is no-drill, uses the same bolts or is approved as a jack point.

Fitment comes before tools

The slider must place every mounting plate at the correct frame locations. “Tacoma rock slider” is not a complete application.

Cali Raised's current 2024+ Step Edition page lists separate Double-Cab short-bed and Double-Cab long-bed choices; the cited application does not document XtraCab fitment. Its 2005–2023 Step Edition page separately lists Access Cab, Double Cab short bed and Double Cab long bed. Review the 2024+ application and the 2005–2023 application.

Do not adapt a short-bed, long-bed, Access Cab, Double Cab or XtraCab part by drilling new holes unless the manufacturer publishes that exact conversion. If the original SKU of a used slider is unknown, treat fitment as unknown.

Are rock sliders always bolt-on and no-drill?

No. That statement belongs to an exact product. Cali Raised describes its named 2024+ Step Edition as a 100% bolt-on, no-drilling/no-cutting installation with supplied Grade 8 hardware. This is useful evidence for that selected application, not a universal rule for Tacoma sliders.

For any slider, obtain the current instructions and confirm:

  • which factory holes or frame locations are used;
  • whether drilling, cutting or removal of another part is required;
  • the supplied bolt, washer, spacer and plate inventory;
  • left/right orientation and the installation sequence; and
  • the maker's torque values and any post-install recheck.

Do not substitute a generic torque chart for the product's instructions when the maker provides exact fasteners and values.

What should be finished before installation?

Resolve the coating before bolting a raw-steel slider to the truck. Cali Raised offers raw-steel, powder-coat and bedliner-related finish choices on the cited products. A raw part is an order choice, not a finished exterior surface.

If you choose raw steel for local coating, confirm which mating surfaces, threaded areas and identification marks must remain usable. Follow the slider maker and coating provider rather than masking by guesswork. Inspect the coating and clear every intended mounting hole before lifting the slider into place.

Why handling belongs in the plan

Cali Raised lists its 2024+ Step Edition at approximately 125 lb per set. The exact side-to-side weight is not stated on the cited page, but the published set weight is enough to rule out casual one-handed alignment.

Plan suitable help or stable lifting/support equipment so the slider can be held against the frame while fasteners start without cross-threading. Never work beneath an inadequately supported vehicle, and do not use a loose jack as the only support. Follow the product instructions for whether raising the vehicle is necessary at all.

Does frame-mounted mean you can jack from the slider?

Not automatically. Frame mounting and Grade 8 hardware describe construction and attachment; they do not by themselves publish a jack-point rating. Use a slider as a lifting point only when the exact manufacturer explicitly authorizes that use and states the required procedure and limits.

The same rule applies to impact or recovery claims. A structural appearance is not a substitute for the maker's documentation.

Check the truck before the slider goes up

Inspect the specified frame mounting area for damage, deformation, corrosion, repaired sections, existing accessories and blocked holes. Compare what is on the truck with the current instructions. If another frame-mounted accessory shares the area, require written compatibility rather than stacking or omitting hardware.

Keep wiring, hoses and other vehicle components clear according to the exact installation procedure. If the instructions show a spacer, backing plate or installation order, do not improvise its position.

Before you buy or schedule installation

Ask: “I have a [year] Tacoma [cab] with a [bed length]. Does this exact slider SKU use the factory frame locations with the supplied hardware, require drilling or cutting, arrive finished, and have a published torque/recheck procedure?”

If you intend to use the slider as a step, protection rail or jack point, ask the maker to document that exact use separately. For a fourth-gen Double-Cab long bed, start with the long-bed slider fitment guide.

Bottom line

For a clean Tacoma slider installation, match the exact year/generation, cab and bed; resolve the finish; inventory the supplied hardware; follow the product's drilling, sequence and torque instructions; and plan safe support during alignment. A no-drill claim, fastener grade or jack-point statement applies only when the exact slider manufacturer documents it.

If you have not yet chosen between access and protection, compare Tacoma running boards versus frame-mounted rock sliders.
