Will a Jeep Gladiator Hard Tri-Fold Cover Fit a 2016–2023 Tacoma Short Bed?

NOT LISTED FOR TACOMA
No—do not buy or transfer it as a Tacoma fit. Mopar's hard tri-fold #82216372AD is designed for the Jeep Gladiator, while Tacoma cover makers publish Tacoma-specific applications and installation hardware. Neither source documents that Gladiator cover on a 2016–2023 Tacoma short bed.
Compatibility snapshot
| Cover/application evidence | Verdict | Required check |
|---|---|---|
| Mopar #82216372AD is listed for Jeep Gladiator | Not a documented Tacoma fit | Do not transfer the application by bed appearance. |
| Cover maker lists the exact SKU for 2016–2023 Tacoma and exact bed | Potentially compatible | Match cab, rails, hardware and exclusions. |
| Cover only rests on the Tacoma bed | Fitment not proven | Verify latches, seals, drains, rail engagement and operation. |
| Custom mixed clamps/rails or drilling are proposed | Do not treat as supported fitment | Obtain manufacturer approval instead. |
A product family is not a cross-truck fitment approval
Mopar identifies its #82216372AD Hard Tri-Fold Tonneau Cover Kit as an accessory designed for the Jeep Gladiator. See Mopar's product listing. That is a positive application for the Gladiator—not an application for any Toyota Tacoma.
For comparison, BAK's installation sheet is expressly for a 2016+ Toyota Tacoma cover and its own rails, clamps and drain hardware. Read the BAK Tacoma installation sheet. BAK also publishes a separate 2024+ Tacoma instruction set for a different product application. See the 2024+ Tacoma sheet.
Those documents do not prove the exact physical dimension of every cover on every truck. They do show the buying point that matters: a hard tri-fold uses vehicle- and product-specific components, and neither maker lists this Gladiator cover for a third-gen Tacoma.
What counts as a yes
Treat a cover as compatible only when its manufacturer lists the same SKU for all of these:
- 2016–2023 Toyota Tacoma;
- your exact bed length and cab configuration;
- the relevant deck-rail, stake-pocket or storage-box condition; and
- the supplied mounting hardware.
If the manufacturer gives a named transfer adapter or a written cross-application approval, that evidence can change the verdict. A seller's statement, a similar-looking bed, or a community install cannot substitute for it.
Why modifying the cover is the wrong next step
The Tacoma sheet calls out cover rails, clamps and drain routing as part of the installation. A fit that merely rests on the bed does not establish latch engagement, seal contact, cover operation or safe retention. Do not drill, slot, bend, or mix hardware to make this unlisted transfer work; ask the cover manufacturer instead.
Bottom line
For a 2016–2023 Tacoma short bed, a Jeep Gladiator hard tri-fold cover is not listed as a fit. Keep shopping until the cover maker lists your exact Tacoma configuration and part number. That is safer than guessing because both trucks have a short bed. The same exact-SKU rule applies across Tacoma generations; see 2024 cover on a 2022 Tacoma.
