Will a 2024 Tacoma Bed Cover Fit a 2022 Tacoma 5-Foot Bed?

NO AUTOMATIC CROSS-GENERATION FIT
No—not unless the cover maker lists that exact SKU for your 2022 Tacoma. Retrax lists T-60870 for 2024–2026 Tacoma 5-foot beds and a separate T-60851 for 2016–2023 Tacoma 5-foot beds. The 2024–2026 part is not listed for a 2022 application.
Compatibility snapshot
| Cover/application | 2022 Tacoma verdict | Required check |
|---|---|---|
| RetraxONE XR T-60870, listed for 2024–2026 5-foot beds | Not listed for 2022 | Do not transfer the newer-generation part. |
| RetraxONE XR T-60851, listed for 2016–2023 5-foot beds | Generation-appropriate candidate | Confirm exact bed, deck rails and current exclusions. |
| Another maker lists one identical SKU for both exact trucks | Compatible only as documented | Follow that product's current application and hardware instructions. |
| Seller title says only “2024 Tacoma cover” | Insufficient evidence | Identify the manufacturer part number. |
The Retrax example gives a clear no for a named 2024 cover
RealTruck/Retrax lists RetraxONE XR T-60870 for a 2024–2026 Toyota Tacoma 5-foot bed and notes that installation requires the deck-rail system. Review the T-60870 application. That is not a listing for a 2022 truck.
The same manufacturer lists a different RetraxONE XR, T-60851, for the 2016–2023 Tacoma 5-foot bed. Review the T-60851 application. For these named products, the answer is direct: T-60870 is not the listed choice for a 2022 Tacoma; T-60851 is the generation-specific application to investigate instead.
Do not convert one product example into a universal rule
This does not prove that every 2024 cover fails on every 2022 Tacoma. It proves that model year alone is not an interchange statement. BAK's separate instructions for 2016+ and 2024+ Tacoma cover applications reinforce the need to use the exact product sheet. See BAK's 2016+ sheet and its 2024+ sheet.
If another manufacturer explicitly lists one cover SKU for both 2022 and 2024 5-foot Tacomas, that named SKU can be compatible. Without that listing, the honest verdict is unknown—do not buy on assumption.
Verify these configuration details before ordering
1. Bed length and cab
The T-60851 example is specifically for a 5-foot-bed application. A 6-foot bed needs its own application. Do not use a nominal “short bed” label as a substitute for the manufacturer's fitment entry.
2. Rail and storage exclusions
The T-60870 requires the deck-rail system. Product instructions can also identify storage-box or stake-pocket exclusions. If the listing's required interface is absent from your truck, a same-year cover can still be the wrong choice.
3. Complete installation hardware
Use the rails, clamps, seals and drain parts specified for the listed cover. Do not reuse unknown parts from a 2024 kit on a 2022 Tacoma to force a match.
Bottom line
A 2024 Tacoma cover is not automatically a 2022 Tacoma cover. In the Retrax example, T-60870 is a 2024–2026 part and T-60851 is the 2016–2023 part. Select the SKU your cover maker currently approves for your exact 2022 bed and rail configuration. Do not broaden the rule across vehicle makes either; the Gladiator-cover transfer guide shows the same SKU/application boundary.
