Fourth-Gen Tacoma Hybrid vs. Gas Skid Plates: What Fits?

GAS AND HYBRID SKID PATHS ARE NOT INTERCHANGEABLE

High confidence for the cited applications · Last verified 15 Oct 2026

Fourth-gen Tacoma skid plates must match i-FORCE gas or i-FORCE MAX hybrid, but powertrain is not the only order field. Current systems also split by 4WD, stabilizer disconnect, cab/bed, front crossmember and factory TRD armor. C4 and Cali Raised offer selected gas/hybrid variants; RCI uses distinct, narrower product paths.

Which fourth-gen skid systems explicitly separate gas and hybrid?

Three current manufacturer families show why “fits 2024+ Tacoma” is not a complete application.

Product familyGas / hybrid handlingOther decisive fieldsEvidence boundary
C4 full skid system, SKU 1224-50600Separate i-FORCE gas and i-FORCE MAX hybrid choicesSDM or non-SDM; automatic transmissionBoth powertrains are named, but the exact selected configuration still controls
Cali Raised complete collectionHybrid or non-hybrid selectorMust be 4WD; factory-skid conflicts on named componentsCollection supports both paths only through the correct selector
RCI skid familySeparate hybrid and non-hybrid transmission/transfer pathsNamed grade, cab/bed, crossmember and companion-product limitsSeveral RCI pages verify narrower applications rather than all fourth-gen trucks

Do not mix a hybrid plate, non-hybrid adjacent plate and third-party crossmember because the holes appear close. A skid system is an assembly: vehicle mounts, crossmembers, exhaust clearance and neighboring plates all have to agree.

C4: choose powertrain and stabilizer disconnect separately

C4 Fabrication's 2024–2026 full skid system, SKU 1224-50600, presents two independent selectors:

  • i-FORCE 2.4-liter turbo with automatic transmission or i-FORCE MAX hybrid with automatic transmission; and
  • stabilizer-disconnect skid or non-stabilizer-disconnect skid.

That makes C4 the clearest example of a system where “hybrid” alone is still insufficient. A TRD Off-Road or another fourth-gen truck can differ by Stabilizer Disconnect Mechanism (SDM), so the buyer must resolve both fields. Review C4's current selector.

C4 says the system covers the radiator-to-transfer-case area and removes the OEM tow/recovery points during installation. That removal is part of fitment: a plate can bolt on while changing another function the owner expected to retain.

The page does not establish a manual-transmission application or every possible modified underbody. Use only a listed selector combination.

Cali Raised: both powertrains are offered, but the named systems require 4WD

Cali Raised's complete 2024+ collection asks whether the truck is hybrid or non-hybrid and states must be 4WD. It includes front, transmission, transfer-case, lower-control-arm and fuel-tank plates; rear-shock protection is separate. See the complete collection and its configuration choices.

The current page also publishes different transfer-case-plate weights by powertrain. That is product-specific confirmation that the hybrid and non-hybrid variants are not merely different labels on one identical plate.

Two individual products add important limits:

Do not let broad page wording such as “2024+ Tacoma” or “universal fit” override those explicit selectors and restrictions. A 2WD truck or a truck retaining conflicting OEM armor needs a different documented path.

RCI: hybrid and non-hybrid use distinct SKUs with narrower verified scopes

RCI's product structure requires especially careful reading because the hybrid label does not necessarily mean every hybrid Tacoma.

Transmission skid plates

RCI's hybrid transmission skid, SKU TOYO-24-TRANS-HYB, is described as hybrid-compatible. Its published Tacoma fitment specifically names a 2024 TRD Pro Double Cab short bed i-FORCE MAX. That is strong support for the named configuration, not a blanket approval for every hybrid grade and bed. Read the exact hybrid transmission-skid fitment.

The non-hybrid transmission route is different. RCI's SKU 24-TACO-T4R-TRANS-NH is verified for a 2024 4x4 TRD Off-Road non-hybrid and explicitly says it is not compatible with the hybrid model. See the non-hybrid transmission-skid application.

Those two pages establish separate application paths. They do not support swapping one transmission plate for the other.

Transfer-case skid plates

RCI's hybrid transfer-case plate, SKU TACO-24-TCASE-HYB, says it is designed exclusively for hybrid models. Its fitment text confirms a 2024 hybrid short-bed application while describing hybrid long-bed Trailhunter fitment as suspected. Treat suspected fitment as unconfirmed until RCI updates the application or verifies the exact truck. Review the hybrid transfer-case page.

RCI's non-hybrid package, SKU TACO-24-PKG-NONHYB, combines engine, transmission and transfer-case armor. RCI verifies it for 4x4 TRD Off-Road non-hybrid models and explicitly excludes hybrid compatibility for the transmission and transfer-case pieces. Review the non-hybrid package.

Catalytic guards and crossmembers

RCI's hybrid catalytic guards, SKU RCI-TOYO-24-CAT-HYB, require an RCI hybrid transmission skid; that skid is not included. The non-hybrid catalytic guards likewise follow the non-hybrid RCI transmission-skid path. The guard's powertrain label and companion plate must match. See the hybrid catalytic-guard requirement.

RCI's engine skid also requires a front crossmember below the radiator. For a truck without that factory support, RCI directs the buyer to its separate mounting crossmember. Inspect the truck rather than assuming grade or hybrid status proves the crossmember is present.

Which skid plates might be shared between gas and hybrid?

Some plates farther from the changed powertrain may use one application, but only the manufacturer's current fitment statement can establish that. Lower-control-arm or front-engine-area products can still have grade, recovery-mount, crossmember or factory-armor restrictions.

Use this sequence for every plate:

  1. Does the page explicitly name both gas and hybrid, or offer separate variants?
  2. Does it require 4WD, a particular grade, cab/bed or suspension system?
  3. Does it attach to another plate or crossmember?
  4. Does it conflict with an OEM TRD skid, recovery mount, bumper or factory support?
  5. Does the maker call the application verified/confirmed, or only suspected?

If the exact configuration is absent, the verdict is unknown until the maker confirms it.

Can you mix skid plates from different manufacturers?

Not by default. Adjacent plates can share a crossmember, overlap at a seam, use the same bolts or depend on a maker-specific bracket. A catalytic guard may mount directly to that brand's transmission skid. Even when two plates each fit the truck separately, their combined interface remains unproven unless both makers document it.

Ask for confirmation using exact identifiers:

> Does your hybrid transmission skid SKU ___ work with front skid ___ and transfer-case skid ___ on a 2025 Tacoma TRD Off-Road i-FORCE MAX with SDM and the factory TRD front skid?

“They should line up” is not a documented system application.

Before you buy

Record these fields before placing the order:

  • model year, grade, cab and bed;
  • i-FORCE gas or i-FORCE MAX hybrid;
  • automatic or manual transmission;
  • 4WD or 2WD;
  • SDM or non-SDM;
  • front crossmember and recovery-point hardware;
  • every factory or aftermarket plate already installed;
  • exact plate material, SKU and required companion pieces; and
  • service openings, removed parts and total added weight.

If you do not yet know the complete vehicle configuration, use the i-FORCE versus i-FORCE MAX parts-fitment hub before selecting armor.

Bottom line

Gas-versus-hybrid is a mandatory skid-plate field, not the final answer. C4 also splits by SDM; Cali Raised requires 4WD on its named core systems; RCI publishes distinct hybrid and non-hybrid SKUs with configuration-specific verification. Match the exact truck and the complete plate system, and never promote “suspected” or visually plausible fitment into approval.

For coverage and material after exact fitment is resolved, continue with which Tacoma skid areas need protection and steel versus aluminum.
