Can a 5-Foot Camper Shell Fit a 2025 Tacoma SR5?

FITS ONLY WITH A FOURTH-GEN, SHORT-BED APPLICATION

High confidence · Last verified 6 Sep 2026

A 2025 Tacoma SR5 can use a camper shell only when the shell maker lists the 2024–2026 Tacoma 5-foot (short-bed) application. SmartCap publishes distinct 2024–2026 Tacoma 5-foot and 6-foot products, and LEER separately identifies a 2024–2026 Tacoma cap application. Neither source supports reusing a 2016–2023 or long-bed shell on the SR5 simply because it is called a Tacoma.

A 2025 Tacoma shell is a generation-and-bed-length purchase

SmartCap's Tacoma EVO application lists separate 2024–2026 Tacoma short 5-foot and standard 6-foot products, with distinct part numbers. That is direct manufacturer evidence that the bed length is part of the shell fitment—not an optional preference after purchase.

LEER's 180CC product page separately identifies a 2024–2026 Toyota Tacoma application and warns that vehicle-specific fitment, installation components, roof-rack compatibility, and availability vary by model year and bed configuration. These independent manufacturer applications support the same buying rule: start with the exact current-generation truck and bed, then confirm the cap's configuration in the manufacturer selector or with its dealer.

Do not transfer a third-gen or long-bed cap by name alone

The 2025 Tacoma is the fourth generation. A cap sold for a 2016–2023 Tacoma may share a model name but is not documented by either cited cap maker as a 2025 substitute. Likewise, the SmartCap page treats the 5-foot and 6-foot 2024–2026 beds as different applications. There is no basis here to adapt, drill, or force a mismatched cap into place.

For a 2025 SR5, obtain the exact cap part number and give the dealer the VIN or all requested truck details before ordering. This guide does not establish fitment for Trailhunter, TRD Pro, factory bed accessories, a tonneau, a drawer system, or a used shell without an exact manufacturer confirmation.

Check the truck after the cap is selected

Toyota's 2025 Tacoma Owner's Manual says cargo capacity is vehicle-specific and is reduced by occupants; the controlling limit is the vehicle's load-capacity placard. A cap's weight, cargo, rack, and tent all consume that allowance. Toyota also requires cargo to be secured and warns against exceeding vehicle or axle load limits.

That means a shell's own construction or roof-rack rating is not permission to exceed the SR5's actual label. We do not publish a universal payload number here because trim, equipment, passengers, and accessories can change the remaining capacity.

Bottom line

Yes, a 5-foot camper shell can fit a 2025 Tacoma SR5 when it is specifically listed for the 2024–2026 Tacoma short bed. SmartCap provides an exact 5-foot example; LEER independently confirms a current-generation Tacoma application. Verify the bed and exact cap configuration, then use the individual truck's load label for every added component. If evaluating a used cap from another generation, apply the stricter camper-shell transfer rule.
