LOCATE THE ENTRY POINT WITH A CONTROLLED TEST; DO NOT SEAL THE BED BLINDLY

High confidence · Last verified 27 Oct 2026

No tonneau makes the Maverick bed a sealed trunk. Reduce water entry by confirming rail height and cover alignment, continuous bulkhead and side seals, closed corner gaps, engaged latches and unkinked drain tubes routed to approved exits. Test one zone at a time with low-pressure water.

Water can travel along the underside of a panel and appear far from its entry point. A garden hose test is more useful than a pressure washer, which can force water past seals in a way normal rain does not.

Begin with the cover closed and the bed dry. Apply low-pressure water to the cab-side edge for several minutes, inspect, then move to one side and finally the tailgate. Mark the first drop, not the largest puddle.

If a rail is bowed or too low, adding foam can make latching worse. Loosen and realign it to the instructions. Replace damaged or contaminated seal material with the specified type, and do not stack random weatherstrip where it changes panel geometry.

Drain tubes should descend continuously without a low loop. Verify the exit is not pinched by a liner and that water leaves outside the cargo area. Do not plug bed drains to chase a dry interior; trapped water creates a different problem.

Bottom line

Expect weather resistance, not waterproofing. Controlled diagnosis plus correct alignment, seal transitions and drainage will improve a Maverick cover without creating latch or water-trapping issues.

For a clean starting installation, use the Maverick tonneau installation checklist.
