Can a Ford Maverick Tailgate Pad Work With a Tonneau Cover?

OFTEN YES WITH THE COVER FULLY SECURED OPEN—BUT THE EXACT RAILS, LATCHES AND PAD MUST CLEAR

A Maverick tailgate pad can often be used while a folding or roll-up tonneau remains installed and fully secured at the cab. It does not follow that the cover can close over the bikes or pad. Verify tailgate operation, cover latches, rail-end clearance, camera access and bike-to-cab contact.

The short Maverick bed places bike forks and handlebars close to the cab, while tonneau rails reduce the open-bed width. Compatibility is therefore a three-part question: can the pad wrap the tailgate, can the cover be secured out of the way, and can the loaded bikes remain clear?

Install the pad without bikes, close the tailgate and confirm the handle, camera and latch operate. Open and secure the cover exactly as the maker allows for driving. Then load one bike and turn its bars through the intended position while checking cab glass, rack hardware and adjacent bikes.

Do not trap pad straps in the tailgate latch or tonneau rail. Clean grit from both sides of the pad, and use frame/fork separators so bikes cannot saw against each other over bumps.

Bottom line

The workable combination is usually pad plus a cover secured completely open—not bikes under a closed tonneau. Exact rail and latch geometry still decides the fit.
