Which Roof Cargo Box Fits a Ford Maverick?

USE A BOX APPROVED FOR THE EXACT CROSSBARS, THEN SCREEN ROOF LOAD AND MOONROOF FIRST

Ford lists Thule Force large and extra-large cargo boxes plus a Yakima lockable box in the Maverick accessory catalog. That is not a universal fit guarantee: the exact roof-rack system, permitted crossbar spread, box-clamp range, box weight, cargo weight and exact-year roof-load or moonroof restriction must all agree.

The Maverick has a naked roof, so the box mounts to an added vehicle-specific crossbar system—not directly to the sheet metal. Ford currently catalogs Thule and Yakima removable crossbars for the Maverick and lists compatible carrier families, including Thule Force boxes.

The fit calculation

`usable cargo allowance = lowest roof/rack/box limit − crossbars − towers − empty box`

Volume does not replace this calculation. A large box can be lightly loaded and legal; a smaller box can exceed the roof limit when filled with dense tools. Put bulky, light items such as sleeping bags in the box and keep dense cargo low in the bed.

CheckWhy it matters
Vehicle-specific crossbarsEstablishes the attachment to the Maverick roof
Crossbar spreadMust fall inside the box clamp's adjustment range
Roof and rack loadIncludes rack, box and cargo
MoonroofSome exact-year guidance prohibits crossbars or roof load
Box length and placementAvoids excessive windshield overhang and antenna contact
Clamp and bar profileConfirms the box hardware closes and torques correctly

Ford's catalog includes the Thule Force 3 Large and Force XT Extra Large, while Thule's comparison chart identifies the Force 3 XL as an 18-cubic-foot box. Choose the smallest volume that carries the intended light cargo while remaining inside the vehicle and rack limits.

Load evenly, lock every clamp and lid point, and recheck fasteners after the initial drive and at fuel stops. Remove an empty box when it is not needed to reduce wind noise and aerodynamic drag.

Bottom line

A Ford-listed box on a Maverick-specific rack is the cleanest starting point, but the owner's manual and rack fit still control. Do not buy from box length or cubic feet alone—confirm spread, clamp, roof allowance and moonroof status first.

If the truck still needs crossbars, begin with the Maverick naked-roof crossbar guide.
