Will a Hitch Bike Rack Clear the Ford Maverick Tailgate?
CONDITIONAL—TILT IS NOT A TAILGATE-CLEARANCE GUARANTEE
Thule T2 Pro XTR and Yakima HoldUp racks tilt for rear access, but neither maker promises full Maverick tailgate opening in every receiver position. Measure the installed receiver from hitch-pin center to bumper/tailgate sweep and physically test the rack with bikes removed and loaded.
Verify the exact configuration before ordering.
Thule publishes a 6.3-inch bumper-clearance allowance for T2 Pro XT/XTR models and requires at least 1.5 inches from hitch-pin center to receiver end. Those figures establish insertion/bumper fit, not the path of a pickup tailgate.
Yakima says the current HoldUp has three-position tilt; the archived HoldUp Classic also tilts. “Rear access” may mean a hatch can open—not that a Maverick tailgate clears trays, handlebars or bikes.
Test sequence
With the unloaded rack installed, move it through stowed, deployed and tilt positions while supporting the tailgate. Repeat with representative bikes, checking pedals and handlebars. Never drive with the rack in an access/tilt position unless the instructions expressly allow it.

Bottom line
Both product families offer a plausible fit, but tailgate access is conditional. Measure the exact receiver and rack, and expect that full opening may require removing bikes or the rack.
