Will a Cooler, Packout or Cargo Box Fit Under a Maverick Tonneau?

MEASURE THE INSTALLED COVER, NOT THE BED-SIDE HEIGHT

High confidence · Last verified 27 Oct 2026

A container fits only when its loaded height clears the lowest installed cover component—with margin for the lid, latches and bed-floor shape. Measure from the actual resting point to the underside of rails, bows, panels or retractable canister; catalog exterior dimensions are not enough.

The Maverick has a 4.5-foot bed, but a cover changes the usable envelope. A soft roll-up may have bows below the fabric. A folding cover has rails and hinge hardware. A retractable cover adds both side rails and a front canister. Even two covers that sit equally low outside can differ underneath.

Use this four-measurement test:

  1. Measure container height with handles folded and with the lid hardware at its tallest point.
  2. Measure from the exact bed-floor location—over a liner, mat or rib—to the lowest cover obstruction.
  3. Check the route into the bed. A box may fit under the cover but not pass through the tailgate opening or canister gap.
  4. Add practical clearance so vibration, a loaded lid or a bowed soft cover does not rub.

Ford lists the 2026 Maverick bed at 54.4 inches long and 53.3 inches wide, with 42.6 inches between wheel wells. Those dimensions help with footprint planning, but they do not publish the installed clearance beneath an aftermarket cover. The only reliable height is the one measured on the chosen truck-and-cover combination.

Bottom line

Choose the container and cover as one system. If the box is already owned, bring its real dimensions to the cover decision. If the cover is already installed, measure the narrowest entry and lowest underside point before ordering a cooler or modular stack. A few inches of unused vertical margin is cheaper than a lid that cannot open or a cover that cannot close.
