MEASURE THE LOADED TRUCK AND LEVEL TRAILER—THERE IS NO UNIVERSAL MAVERICK DROP

High confidence · Last verified 27 Oct 2026

Match the ball-mount shank to the receiver, then measure from level ground to the top inside of the loaded truck’s receiver and to the bottom of the level trailer coupler. The height difference determines rise or drop. Match the ball diameter exactly to the coupler stamp and exceed every trailer/tongue rating.

Two Mavericks can need different mounts because tire size, suspension, payload and trailer coupler height differ. “A two-inch ball” describes the ball diameter, not the receiver opening or required drop.

InputWhat to verify

Rise/dropCoupler height minus receiver height on level ground
Ball diameterExact match to coupler marking
Ball shankMatches mount hole diameter and platform thickness
RatingsGTW and tongue rating of receiver, mount, ball and coupler
LengthTurning and bumper clearance without excessive leverage

CURT defines drop as trailer coupler height minus receiver height when the receiver sits higher; the mount is used in rise when the trailer is higher. Not every fixed mount may be flipped, so follow its marking and instructions.

Install the ball to its specified torque with the required washer/nut and tools. Latch the coupler, insert its safety pin, cross the safety chains and route wiring with turning clearance. A high-rated adjustable mount cannot increase the Maverick’s tow or tongue limits.

Bottom line

Measure the actual loaded combination and buy to those dimensions. Correct height, exact coupler-ball match and adequate ratings are all required for a level, secure Maverick towing setup.
