Can a Fourth-Gen Tacoma Bed Mat Be Bolted Under Factory Tie-Downs?

DO NOT BOLT IT UNDER THE TIE-DOWNS

High confidence · Last verified 5 Sep 2026

Toyota's 2024+ Tacoma bed mat is installed as a centered drop-in mat, not beneath factory tie-downs or bed bolts. Toyota's instructions say to place it logo-rear, center it around the wheel wells, and verify tailgate closure. Use tie-downs to secure cargo—not to fasten this mat—unless a different mat maker supplies its own instructions.

The Toyota mat is a drop-in accessory

Toyota's 2024 Tacoma bed-mat installation sheet identifies PT318-35240 and PT318-35241 and applies them to 2024-and-newer Tacoma models. Its entire installation instruction is to place the mat in the bed with the logo toward the rear and facing up, then center it around the wheel wells. The document does not instruct the installer to remove, reuse or cover factory tie-down fasteners. Read Toyota's bed-mat installation sheet.

That makes the answer to the bolt-under-tie-down question no for the Toyota mat. Adding bolts through a drop-in mat is not an approved retention method and can change how the accessory lies against the bed.

Tailgate function is the required post-install check

Toyota explicitly includes a tailgate-function check after the mat is fitted: the tailgate must close once the mat is installed. That is the test to perform after centering the mat. A mat that bunches at the rear or prevents closure is not correctly positioned; do not solve that by pulling it under cargo hardware.

Toyota still offers bed mats in the current Tacoma accessory range, alongside cargo dividers, bed extenders and other bed hardware. These are separate products with separate fitment and installation requirements. Review Toyota's Tacoma bed-accessory catalog.

Treat cargo restraint as a separate job

A rubber mat can reduce sliding, but it is not a tie-down and it is not a substitute for restraining cargo. Keep using the truck's appropriate cargo-securement points for the load itself. If an accessory maker provides a different mat that intentionally shares a tie-down or bolt location, use that maker's exact Tacoma application and installation instructions—not the Toyota drop-in procedure.

Toyota's bed-mat instructions list the storage box accessory as a conflict. That is a real reason to stop and check the full bed configuration before installation. The sheet does not approve a mat with every storage box, divider, rack, cover or aftermarket cargo system.

Bottom line

Do not bolt Toyota's 2024+ Tacoma bed mat beneath factory tie-downs or bed bolts. Place the correct Toyota mat in the bed, center it around the wheel wells and confirm the tailgate closes. For cargo restraint or a mat that shares a mounting point, use the specific hardware and documentation for that separate product.
