Can a Roof Rack Fit a 2014 Tacoma Access Cab?

FITS WITH AN ACCESS-CAB-SPECIFIC SYSTEM

High confidence · Last verified 6 Sep 2026

A 2014 Tacoma Access Cab can carry a roof rack, but the rack must be listed for the 2005–2015 Access Cab—not merely “Tacoma.” Rhino-Rack and Yakima each publish 2005–2015 Access-Cab applications, while Prinsu’s full-length Access rack uses a different installation method: drilling and plus nuts. A Double-Cab rack or an assumed factory-mount installation is not documented by these sources.

The cab style is the fitment decision

A Tacoma roof is not a single rack application. Rhino-Rack's vehicle finder separately identifies the 2005–2015 Gen2 Access Cab and lists its Vortex 2500 and Heavy Duty 2500 two-bar systems. Yakima's BaseClip 128 instructions likewise name the 2005–2015 Tacoma Access Cab application.

That is the documented buying path for a 2014 Access Cab: select the application that says Access Cab and the correct generation. A listing that only says “Tacoma,” or one that names a Double Cab, does not establish fitment on this shorter-cab truck.

A low-profile rack is a different installation, not a drop-in substitute

Prinsu's Tacoma Access Rack is explicitly made for 2005–2023 Access Cab Tacomas, but its manufacturer states that it requires drilling into the factory roof and installing plus nuts. Its instructions also warn that rear mounting hardware can conflict with an airbag mounting bracket depending on the vehicle and installation; Prinsu recommends lowering the rear headliner to check before fastening it.

That makes the practical choice clear. A buyer who needs removable crossbars should select a documented crossbar system such as the Access-Cab Rhino-Rack application. A buyer choosing the Prinsu-style rack must accept the specified drilling procedure and complete the installation checks. Do not turn a clamp-on fitment listing into proof that a drilled rack is no-drill, or vice versa.

Load numbers are not interchangeable between systems

The sources here establish vehicle application and installation method, not a single safe load number for every 2014 Tacoma, rack, and cargo combination. Rack ratings, crossbar selection, cargo shape, and the vehicle's own roof/load guidance can impose different limits. Follow the selected manufacturer's installation and loading instructions; secure cargo so it cannot shift or detach.

Bottom line

Yes, a roof rack can fit a 2014 Tacoma Access Cab when it is an Access-Cab-specific 2005–2015 application. Rhino-Rack and Yakima document that vehicle path. A full-length Prinsu Access rack is also documented, but it is a drilled installation with an explicit inside-roof/airbag-clearance check—not a substitute for a generic or Double-Cab rack. After choosing the installation type, use the roof-rack noise and load guide for the operating checks.
